This piece began as a surgical sketch of a hemithyroidectomy procedure. My goal was to highlight the features of the electric Shaw brand scalpel. I rendered the instrument in a 3D program and used cool, muted colors throughout most of the scene except for the point of action where the scalpel is cutting through connective tissue.
