This
painting illustrates the pathological state where the infant's ductus, which
allows the fetus's heart to bypass pulmonary circulation, does not close after
birth. The result is partially oxygenated blood and "blue baby" syndrome.
The figure was drawn from photographs taken by myself colored using Adobe
Photoshop 5.0. and Adobe Illustrator 8.0.
